Circle of care strategy | Explainer Video

Pro Mom Pro Baby, a pro-life nonprofit, connects mothers considering abortion with long-term care through volunteers and churches to promote abundant life. I reached out to founder Greg Clemens about creating content to support the ministry's expansion, suggesting animation as a powerful tool to share their mission.

After discussing ideas, we developed an explainer video titled "Completing the Circle of Care," highlighting the ministry’s mission, vision, and approach to providing abundant life for moms and babies. Through script revisions, storyboarding, and countless collaborative efforts, the project came to life, reflecting the heart of Pro Mom Pro Baby’s mission.

Behind the Video

Storyboard

For large project like this, the storyboard phase was critical. From a technical standpoint, translating a portion of the script into an engaging illustration is a challenging balancing act, as you also need to keep in mind the level of time and effort it will take to bring that illustration to life. But more than that, it’s so important to try to engage the viewer emotionally, by weaving the different parts of the video together into a compelling narrative, taking the viewer on a journey rather than simply sharing ideas.

After many rounds of review and changes to both the script and the storyboard, we finally landed on a set of illustrations Greg and I both felt confident would effectively share the heart of the ministry.

Design

Once the storyboard was approved, I created style frames to define the video’s visual look. Starting with 2D vector illustrations from the storyboard, I transitioned to 3D modeling for a smoother workflow. The 3D style gave the video a soft, approachable feel, with rounded shapes and light shading, designed to engage the audience on a topic that could at times be controversial.

Animation

With insights from the animatic, I began animating by organizing the project into modular files for each scene and shot. This streamlined workflow allowed for efficient file management, easy adjustments, and smoother progress tracking.

I expanded the 3D assets, creating houses, streets, a cityscape, and additional characters. Using a shared rigging system, I rigged the main character and applied the rig to others, enabling animation reuse and saving time. This flexibility proved crucial when additional characters were needed later in production.

Though time constraints required keeping the animation simple, I managed to create some standout shots and was proud of the final result.

Results

Pro Mom Pro Baby was very grateful for the video and excited about how it turned out. Since it’s creation, it’s been an important part of their outreach efforts, and has helped them engage supporters online, sharing their mission in presentations at conferences, and add churches, small groups and clinics to their growing network of partners.
